My hair has always been an uphill battle for me. It’s extremely thin, brittle, and naturally dry, making it super difficult to keep healthy. It doesn’t grow no matter what I do, and it’s always lacking in the volume department *sigh*. A few months ago, I decided to get tape-in hair extensions (read more about them here), which has helped me a lot with my confidence (bye-bye uneven, randomly layered hair due to breakage) but even those weren’t enough to fix all of my issues.
Over the years, I’ve tried many different products in an effort to get a handle on this temperamental mane that my lovely genetics have blessed me with (thanks mom and dad) and as you can imagine, the results have been minimal—Until now, that is. That’s right y’all, after years of searching, at 25 years old, I finally feel like I’ve rounded up my arsenal of foolproof products for these lack luster locks of mine. Keep scrolling to find out what has found a permanent home in my hair care routine:
Juice Organics Shampoo and Conditioner $12
I was sent Juice Organics’ Brightening Shampoo and Conditioner to try a few months back and I’ll admit, I was a little skeptical at first. I’m a hard sell when it comes to shampoo and conditioner because SO many of them leave my thin hair feeling either waxy and weighed down or dry and tangled. Nonetheless I thought, what the hell and gave it a shot. OMG guys, I’m so glad I did. This stuff leaves my hair looking weightless and shiny without feeling dry and flat (I didn’t know that was possible with my hair??). The best part? It’s super affordable and can be purchased at target—WHAT?? It’s made with the highest content of certified organic ingredients possible and they have five other varieties that I’m also looking forward to trying! The overall verdict? HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Lush’s No Drought Dry Shampoo $8.95
Until recently, dry shampoo has never been something I needed to use because I’ve always washed my hair on a daily basis—I know, I know, shame on me but my hair gets SO greasy, SO fast. Anyway, when I got my extensions in, I had to find a way to break this bad habit if I wanted them to last. In walks Lush’s No Drought Dry Shampoo. This stuff is seriously amazing. With how thin my hair is, a lot of dry shampoos just end up adding to the greasy mess and this stuff has been the ONLY product that has actually worked for me. It comes in a powder form and I use a cheap make-up brush to apply it to my roots (a tiny bit goes a super long way so it lasts forever). I’ll admit, the application is a little bit tricky and can be messy at first but once you get the hang of it, you’ll never want to use another dry shampoo!
Living Proof T.B.D Multi-Tasking Styler $26
Living Proofs T.B.D Multi-Tasking Styler is the most recent addition to my hair care routine and two words: liquid gold. “T.B.D” stands for tame, blow out, and deconstruct and holy crap, this stuff does the job (or jobs for that matter). It makes my hair super smooth and manageable while adding a ton of much needed volume and texture. It can be applied to wet or dry hair, smells amazing, and did I mention it’s also a heat protectant?? SO many products claim to be multi-tasking and versatile, but this is one of the few that I’ve found that actually lives up to its name—Take it from a girl with a super picky head of hair.
Wet Brush Pro-Shine Brush $14.99
When you have ultra brittle hair, the brush that you use matters a lot (something that I learned far too late). I spent many years yanking cheap, crappy brushes through my tangled fresh-out-of-the-shower hair, ripping half of it out as I went (I’m cringing just thinking about it). That is, until a friend of mine introduced me to the Wet Brush. Since making the switch, I’ve noticed a huge difference! It causes minimal damage, leaves my hair looking (and feeling) smooth and shiny, and even helps distribute product and your hairs natural oils evenly. I’ll admit, it’s a little pricier than your average hairbrush but for the sake of your locks, it’s worth every penny!
For all you ladies with temperamental heads of hair, I hope this post gives you a little hair care inspo and for those with naturally luscious locks, I envy you! If anyone decides to try any of these products (or has already tried them), I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments! I hope everyone has a great week—find me on Insta to follow along with mine!
