One thing Dustin and I make a conscious effort to do in our relationship is plan a date night at least once every few weeks. It’s rarely an all out, overly expensive, fancy affair but just the two of us being together, enjoying each others company, and doing something simple and light hearted. With how busy we both are and how caught up in our daily routine we get, it’s something we both look forward to and thoroughly enjoy. Whether it’s a Saturday afternoon hike, a low-key meal at our favorite restaurant, a Sunday afternoon happy hour, or a cozy night in with a few good movies and all the best snacks, it’s a great opportunity for us to decompress from the week and focus on each other.
One of our all time favorite (and super affordable) date nights is wine tasting from home. It always makes for such a cozy, low maintenance night and we have so much fun with it! One of us will usually stop at Trader Joe’s on the way home from work and pick up three or four different bottles of wine (at least a few that we’ve never tried, then usually one or two from our list of favorites) and then run to Whole Foods together to pick up a baguette, a few different kinds of cheeses and meats, and some kind of fruit for a charcuterie board. We’ll slip into some comfy clothes, throw together the charcuterie, crack open each of the bottles of wine, and have our own little tasting session while chatting about our week. Its always so simple and easy yet intimate and indulgent at the same time!
This date night idea can honestly be as budget friendly or costly as you want—we usually end up spending around $40 for everything (still cheaper than dinner and a movie and way more intimate), but I’m sure you could even get away with spending less than that. As I said, we like to get our wines from Trader Joes because the selection and prices are great, and then we head to Whole Foods for the charcuterie because we like to spend a little more on the fancier cheeses and meats, but that’s just us.
Have your own awesome date night ideas? I’d love to hear about them! Let me know in the comments.
