A major guilty pleasure of mine is beauty products. I love reading up on other bloggers beauty routines and I’m a monthly subscription holder for both Ipsy AND Birchbox, which I know may seem like over kill, but the obsession is THAT real guys! It’s so fun to try new things and when you actually fall in love with a product, it makes it that much more satisfying! I’ll admit, I’m not a beauty expert or an experienced makeup artist, but there’s no harm in pretending sometimes! As I said, I’m always experimenting with new things but I wanted to share the products that I’m absolutely loving right now:
I have super thin, brittle hair that not only gets damaged extremely easily, but gets intensely tangled when its wet, so leave-in conditioner is an absolute essential to my everyday routine. Over the years, I’ve tried more detanglers and leave-in’s than I can count and none of them quite delivered the care that my temperamental hair really needed, until I tried the It’s a 10: Potion 10. Seriously guys, this stuff is absolute liquid gold. It’s packed with tons of vitamins and minerals and is really geared towards repair and restoration specifically (which is what my hair really needs). It instantly detangles, smells amazing, and is completely weightless while still leaving my hair angel soft. I absolutely love it and swear by it!
To be honest, it took me a while to jump on the primer bandwagon because I always saw it as an extra step that wasn’t really necessary—I’m wearing moisturizer so what’s the point? Well, about a year ago, I got a sample of one of Smashbox’s other primers (in the form of a serum) in my Birchbox and after giving it a try I saw a significant difference in the longevity and overall finish of my makeup—Just like that, I was a believer! The only thing I didn’t like about it was that it was a little heavy and I could feel the extra layer of product on my skin. After watching a makeup tutorial on YouTube where the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water was being featured, I figured I’d give it a try after my sample ran out. Let me just say, this stuff is amazing! It’s everything I could ever want in a primer AND it doubles as a finishing spray (two for the price of one—what what!?). It’s refreshing, weightless, and makes your foundation go on like butter. Need I say more??
I have olive skin that gets extremely tan in the summer but fair in the winter and I’m always looking for a bronzer that warms up my face but doesn’t make me look orange and sparkley or isn’t too drying (which is another thing I struggle with). This Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzing Powder was recommended to me by a coworker of mine and it’s the perfect balance and shade for my skin! It warms up my face the perfect amount and it has a great matte, smooth finish. Also, did I mention it actually smells like chocolate??
I’m honestly not a big contouring girl because who on earth actually has time for all that?? But I do appreciate a little highlight action on my cheekbones and the bridge of my nose just to brighten things up a bit. Previously, I was using a cheap highlighter from NYX but it was a little chalky and didn’t stay on for long. I received a Sephora gift card for Christmas from the in-laws and had been hearing great things about this Tarte highlighting palette so I thought I’d give it a try. Verdict: it’s just what I was looking for! It comes with 3 colors, a lighter highlighter, a setting type of powder, and a more pigmented highlighter. The lighter one is great for everyday wear and the more pigmented one is perfect for a night out or one of those days I just feel like popping a bit more. Ill admit, the setting powder in the middle doesn’t really work for me and it’s kind of a strange texture, but that’s not really what I bought it for anyway so it’s fine! Also, the packaging is so pretty!
I love the way matte lipstick looks on other girls and in pictures but my lips get very dry and tend to be prone to chapping so I was always super self conscious of trying to rock it! I tried several of the NYX brand liquid lipsticks but they can be pretty drying and after just a few hours, my lips would start to look flakey and patchy. A few months ago I got a sample size of the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in the shade Patina in my Ipsy bag and I loved the finish and the color so much that as soon as I ran out, I went out and bought a full size in the same shade! It’s definitely among the more hydrating matte lipstick I’ve tried and the finish is super lightweight. The color is also a perfect shade of rose/pink on me. Will definitely be buying more shades!
Okay, so you guys may have noticed that all of these products are on the slightly pricier side but beauty products are one of those things that I tend to invest in more, as I apply them directly to my skin or hair (I have temperamental hair and sensitive skin—I know, what a lovely combo) and I really do notice the difference in quality. Also, just a side note: if you love trying new products as much as I do but don’t want to spend the money on the full size versions until you know you like it, then I strongly suggest that you try either Birchbox or Ipsy (or both). They’re each only $10/month and come with 5 fun little beauty product samples customized just for you! They come adorably packaged and it’s something I really look forward to receiving each month!
If anyone has tried or currently uses any of these products, Id love to hear your feedback! Let me know in the comments!
